If you find yourself in a bunker outside the initial green area or along the fairway and you do not have to content with a high lip to the trap, consider going with an iron with more distance than your sand wedge. While it takes practice to get used to the effect that sand has on your high to middle irons, learning to use these clubs from the sand will increase your chances to avoid extra strokes that are commonly the result of ending up in a trap.

  2. Adopt a proper position over the golf ball. Stand approximately 20 to 24 inches away from the ball. Make sure that your shoulder is facing the target. Ensure that your left foot is directly underneath your left shoulder. Remember to flex your knees, as this will help you to shift your weight with ease.
