  1. If you are just off the green but the grass is too long to attempt a putt, try using a 7 or 8 iron to do a simple chip to the hole. Using the same technique you would use for a putt, a smooth stroke with a 7 or 8 iron will lift your ball just past the edge of the rough and fringe and then allow it to roll smoothly on the green toward the hole.
